System Manager - Channels
A channel is also referred to as a port. The number of channels you can enable is determined by how many ports your system has on your telephony card(s).
Options
Each channel has several options that can be configured.
-
Enable
When checked, this will cause the channel to run. If unchecked, the channel will never start up or allow users to connect.
Loop
Set the channel to Loop if you are using direct-wired telephony stations.
Ring Count
Set the channel to Ring when you will be dialing a number or extension to connect. The Count field determines how many times the phone will ring before the channel picks up.
Normal Operation
Allows users to connect and disconnect normally.
Ring-No-Answer
When dialed, the phone will ring but the channel will never answer.
Busy-Out
When dialed, the user will hear a busy tone and the channel will not answer.
Play Volume
You can lower or raise the audio volume for a channel. This can be used to equalize the volume across different telephone lines, as they can vary. The volume can be from -4 to 4, with 0 being the default.
Record Gain
You can lower or raise the record volume for a channel. This can be used to equalize the volume across different telephone lines, as they can vary. The volume can be from -4 to 4, with 0 being the default.
Max Record Time
This determines the maximum amount of time the user can be in RECORD mode straight. Once the limit is reached, the user will be placed in STOP mode. This does not disconnect the user and the user can always go back in RECORD mode. Every time a user issues a command (such as REWIND, PLAY, etc) the Max Record Time counter is reset. All channels should have some modest limit in place to prevent a user from leaving a phone off-hook and creating a 10 hour dictation. This can be from 0-999, with 0 disabling the feature.
Max Silence Time
This determines the maximum amount of time the user can be in RECORD mode with only silence. Once the limit is reached, the user will be placed in STOP mode. This does not disconnect the user and the user can always go back in RECORD mode. Every time a user issues a command (such as REWIND, PLAY, etc), or speaks, the Max Silence Time counter is reset. All channels should have some modest limit in place to prevent a user from recording several minutes of silence. This can be from 0-999, with 0 disabling the feature.
Max Stop Time
This determines the maximum amount of time the user can be in STOP mode. Once the limit is reached, the user will be disconnected. Every time a user issues a command (such as RECORD, PLAY, etc) the Max Stop Time counter is reset. All channels should have some modest limit in place in case the user is not disconnected when they hang up or in case they leave the phone off-hook. Otherwise, the channel will be free to allow new users to connect.
Auto User Log-in
You can enter the ID of an author profile here for it to automatically be logged on when someone connects to that channel.
On-Hook Detection
When a user hangs up, this determines how long before the channel is freed up. The number is in miliseconds, so 1000 ms equals 1 second. If your telephone line does not have Disconnect Supervisor then this feature may not work correctly.
Making Changes
To save any changes you have made, you must click the Update button. To duplicate a channel, click Copy, go to the channel you want to modify, and then click Paste.
The Default button will restore the factory defaults to the channel. Note that any changes you have made will be lost.
