Windows Services
Phoenix has a number of system services that must run. This page lists them and their functionality. Services can be viewed, stopped, and started from Computer Management Console > Services.

Apache
Apache is the core service for Phoenix and is required. This handles all external access to Phoenix over the internet, such as with iNet 3 and Dss Extractor Pro's HTTP upload feature. It also is responsible for file uploading through the web portal and PhoenixTalk, the iPhone app. The status of this service is visible from Navigator on the server as the button LISTENER. It will be green if the service is running and red if it is stopped.
- When to Restart
Apache rarely has issues and is very stable. However, if you are having issues with iNet 3 connecting or uploading dictations through one of the methods mentioned above, then restarting the service should resolve this issue.
Phoenix 11k Converter
This service is an optional install but is necessary if you wish to export dictations in other formats, such as the Dragon or Nuance formats.
- When to Restart
If the desired files are not converting or exporting correctly that are set to convert, then restarting the service should resolve this issue.
Phoenix Dss Converter
This service is an optional install but is necessary if you are importing dss files from digital portables. It converts them from the dss format to the wave format. The status of this service is visible from Navigator on the server as the button DSS. It will be green if the service is running and red if it is stopped.
- When to Restart
If dss files are sitting in the VoiceSolutions\Dss folder and not being imported, then restarting the service should resolve this issue.
Phoenix File Manager
Also referred to as the Importer, this is a core service that is required. It handles importing dictations in the VoiceSolutions\Import directory into the database. It also performs exporting, or if the file requires conversion first, then moves it to the appropriate conversion directory. The status of this service is visible from Navigator on the server as the button IMPORTER. It will be green if the service is running and red if it is stopped.
- When to Restart
If files are sitting in the VoiceSolutions\Import folder and not showing up in the Phoenix Server, or files queued for exporting have not been processed, then restarting the service should resolve this issue.
Phoenix Recorder
This service is an optional install but is necessary if are going to install telephony cards. It handles the entire connection process such as log in, voice prompts, and recording by telephony. The status of this service is visible from Navigator on the server as the button RECORDER. It will be green if the service is running and red if it is stopped.
- When to Restart
If a particular telephony port fails to respond or crashes, restarting the service should resolve this issue.
Phoenix Sentinel
This is a maintenance service and is optional to run. It monitors the Phoenix File Manager service and restarts it every day at midnight to enhance performance.
- When to Restart
There should never be a reason to restart this service.
